High on school and university students agendas for a gap year is volunteering and this is evident in the amount of students who travel to Africa to volunteer every year.

Over the past few years Africa has been deemed safe enough for mass tourism to more remote countries as well as offering great new remote destinations for volunteers to work. Main stream tourist markets are not able to travel to some of the destinations volunteers have access to and this is the bonus. Africa in comparison to the rest of the world is largely untouched due to its political situation not allowing foreigners into the country. This offers untouched natural landscape for both mass tourism and also volunteers who seek new pastures.

Governments give advice on where is and where isn’t safe to travel to. As long as you listen to these warnings you will be fine. Volunteering should be fun and an experience to cherish, so don’t overstep the mark and ignore warnings and safety advice given to you before you travel.
